The Tampa Bay Lightning are off to a very nice start and perhaps their most impressive win came on the road in Vancouver on Saturday night, a place that is very tough to get two points and the Bolts did so with confidence and ease. They now head into Tuesday night's encounter with the Flames after a low scoring battle with the Oilers last night (1-1 after 40 minutes) likely turning to back up goaltender Evgeni Nabokov who will get his first start with his new team after being a journeyman since leaving San Jose. The Bolts are without question one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and they do it at both ends of the arena as they're currently the fourth best offensive team and the seventh best defensive team which is a very rare feat that you see in this day's NHL. However, these Western Canada treks are unforgiving and while the teams may not be as strong as they used to be it is certainly taxing to play three road games in those buildings in a four night span and this will be a nice test to see how strong the Bolts are mentally.
Calgary has been quite impressive through their first seven games of the year as they sit 4-3 but they are winless in their only home affair this season and they'll have to play a pretty special game to avoid dropping to 0-2 at the Saddledome. The Flames have some great young pieces in place and while Sam Bennett won't be with the team this season and will likely be out until the new year after having surgery it is great to see Johnny Gaudreau doing well in his NHL debut and he and Sean Monahan will be the building blocks moving forward. The Flames as mentioned are usually a very strong team on home ice and while all four of their wins this season have been on the road I expect an inspired effort here and I actually like Calgary as a home dog especially if the Bolts go with Nabokov between the pipes.
