The Florida Panthers head to the Pepsi Center to take on the struggling Colorado Avalanche.
The Florida Panthers weren't given much of a chance when they took the ice at the Verizon Center against Washington but they pushed the home team to the limit in a 2-1, shootout defeat. The Panthers knew they could not afford to get into a scorefest with the Capitals which meant limiting the amount of rubber allowed on net and generally keeping the game slow and steady. That worked out about as well as could be hoped for except for the final score. Alex Ovechkin was the third Capital to score in the shootout which became the game winner when Jussi Jokinen shot was stopped by Justin Peters who had 20 stops in the win. Jason Chimera tallied in the first for Washington with Brad Boyes scoring in the third for Florida with Al Montoya recording 27 stops in defeat.

The Colorado Avalanche were a definite threat in the Western Conference last season so they have high hopes entering this year and thus far it's been disappointing in the early going. The disappointment continued in a 3-2 road loss to the Canadiens on Saturday to fall to a surprising 1-4-1-0. The Avalanche played 20 minutes of poor hockey n the second where Montreal scored three times to win it. PK Subban paced the Habs second period offensive explosion with a pair of tallies with Alex Galchenyuk also lighting the lamp to make a winner out of Carey Price and his 32 saves. The Avalanche received goals from Matt Duchene and Alex Tanguay with the loss going to Calvin Pikard who recorded 33 stops. The Avs were 0-4 with the man advantage and missed the net entirely at times as they return home following a 1-2-1 road swing.
The under is 4-0 in the Panthers last four games playing on two days of rest and is 7-1 in the past eight contests after allowing two goals or less in their previous game while the under is 5-1 in the Panthers last six games overall. The over is 6-0 in Colorado's last six home games against a team with a winning % of less then .400 while the under is 7-1 in the Avs last eight versus the Eastern Conference with Colorado going 1-7 in their past eight overall. Head to head the home team is 5-2 in the past seven meetings with the Panthers logging a 2-5 mark in the last seven trips to Colorado. I think we have to consider an under whenever the Panthers hit the ice while Colorado is a mystery right now. I'll dig in to this while waiting for goalies to be confirmed so please check back Tuesday for updates...
