The Tampa Bay Lightning continue their road swing with a stop at the MTS Centre to face the Winnipeg Jets.
The Tampa Bay Lightning used a late goal to down the Calgary Flames 2-1 in overtime. Both defenses dominated play with the respective goaltenders stopping whatever got through for 40 minutes with a scoreless battle heading in to the final 20 minutes of regulation. Calgary drew first blood with Jonny Gaudreau assisting Dennis Wideman with a power play tally only 1:12 in to the third period. Valtteri Fippula lit the lamp with just 2:16 left in regulation to send this to overtime. With only two minutes remaining in the extra session Ondrej Palat backhanded the rebound of an Anton Stralman shot past Kari Ramo and Tampa Bay had win number four of the young season. Rookie Jonathan Drouin notched a helper for his first career point in his second game. Evgeni Nabakov recorded 21 saves to get the victory while Ramo received the defeat with a 20 stop performance.

The Winnipeg Jets put on the defensive clamps with a touch of offense to knock off the visiting Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 on Tuesday night. Winnipeg had been in a scoring drought during a four game slide with a scant two goals scored in this stretch before enjoying an offensive 'explosion' of sorts with two goals in the opening 20 minutes. It didn't take long for the Jets to find the scoring touch with Adam Lowry and Andrew Ladd providing goals in the opening three minutes of the first period. Dustin Byfuglien gave Winnipeg a bit of insurance when he beat Anton Khudobin in the second period. Ondrej Pavelec made the rare support hold up by recording 21 saves to pick up the victory and snap a tough four game stretch. Jiri Tlusty provided the Hurricanes with their lone goal in the opening period which wasn't enough for Khudobin who made 23 saves in a losing performance.
The over is 4-0 in Lightning last 4 vs. Central with the under going 5-0-1 in the Lightning last 6 Friday games and 4-0 in the Lightning last 4 games following a win. For Winnipeg the under is 4-0-1 in Jets last 5 vs. a team with a winning record with the under also going 4-0-1 in Jets last 5 overall. The over is 5-0 in Jets last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600. Head to head the over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Winnipeg while the Lightning are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings. The trends suggest some scoring and a lean to Winnipeg although the Jets have only five goals in five games. I'll dig deeper whe goaltenders are confirmed so please check back Friday afternoon...
