The Boston Bruins will have to turn their season around without captain Zdeno Chara for the next 4-6 weeks as the shut down defenseman will be sidelined with a knee injury that could possibly put him out longer if treatment doesn't work. The Bruins have gotten out to a slow start as they sit with a 4-5 mark which by no means has them out of any divisional race but they simply haven't looked like the big bad Bruins and I think that could be the start of the subtle decline of this group. The B's are certainly still a sthreat to win the Stanley Cup but with some of the guys they let go in the offseason and now with Chara on the shelf it could be a tough go here for the Bruins who have grown so accustomed to winning hockey games over the last five years. Boston will look to skate away from the ACC with a huge victory against their Original Six rivals from Toronto who have been awful on home ice so far this season.
The Maple Leafs will look to move above the .500 mark with a win on home ice on Saturday but they'll have to put in a solid effort against the Bruins who are also looking to make up for a slow start. The Leafs always have huge expectations and have the postseason as goal number one and with this roster I think it is more than possible as they can fill the net with the best of them but the question mark remains whether or not they have enough horses on the blue line to compete long term. Jonathan Bernier was brilliant in his last start for the Buds and he gets the call here against former Leafs prospect Tuukka Rask who has cemented himself as one of the game's best since emerging as the team's starter once Tim Thomas left. This should be an excellent game between two bitter foes but I am dumbfounded as to why the Leafs are the dog here as they're playing on home ice, have been better overall than the B's, and Boston is without Chara. Sign me up for the Leafs.
