The Carolina Hurricanes are a bad, bad sports team. Heading into the season there were a lot of people who were down on this year's edition of the team and for good reason but it is tough to imagine anyone had them winless through their first seven games. It is very tough to hand out a top draft pick this early in the season but I think it is safe to say that the Canes will certainly be in the running at season's end despite the looming return of captain Eric Staal and goaltender Cam Ward who is likely going to make his season debut tonight. The Canes do have some bright young talent but without the pieces around them I think it'll be a tough go for Carolina and while they are bound to win at some point it will be hard to decipher when that will come. They try their luck at Tuesday being that time in Vancouver as they take on a Canucks team who is off to a pretty good start to the season.
The Canucks were an absolute trainwreck last season and almost the playoffs in spite of it and now with more stable management and coaching and number one goaltender in Ryan Miller things could turn around in a hurry for the one time Western Conference powers. Vancouver still possesses a ton of offensive talent and a blue line that can keep them in games and with Miller off to a 5-1 start it is clear they made the right choice opening the wallet and signing the former Blues and Sabres star. Vancouver is a pretty cut and dry team as they work hard, take advantage of their scoring chances, and play a sound defensive game and while some team can exploit that approach and get the Canucks off their game it works wonders against others and I see it happening again here. Yes, the Canes will win soon. No, it won't be tonight, and no it won't be close.
