The Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres meet Thursday night at the First Niagara Center.
The Boston Bruins have gotten off to a rocky start, splitting their last six games and currently sitting with a losing record. The good news is that the Bruins struggling offense has stepped it up recently, scoring nine goals in their last three games and bumping their season average to 2.5 goals per game. Torey Krug has 29 shots on goal, David Krejci has six assists and Seth Griffith has three goals. The Boston Bruins have won six of their last nine games when scoring three or more goals. Defensively, Niklas Svedberg has allowed five goals on 102 shots and Tuukka Rask has given up 22 goals on 217 shots faced. The Bruins have allowed just one power play goal in their last five games and have held two of their last five opponents to one or less goals.

The Buffalo Sabres continue to show they’re one of the worst teams in the league as their 2-8 record puts them at the bottom of the Atlantic Division. The main concern for the Sabres is their lack of offense that’s produced two or less goals in nine of their 10 games. The Buffalo Sabres still have yet to score a single power play goal and they’ve lost 30 of their last 31 games when scoring two or less goals. Tyler Ennis leads Buffalo with three goals, Drew Stafford has four assists and Chris Stewart has 26 shots on goal. Defensively, Jhonas Enroth has allowed 19 goals on 222 shots faced and Michal Neuvirth has allowed 13 goals on 144 shots faced. The Sabres have killed 84.6 percent of their power plays, which is about the only thing they’ve done well this season.
The Bruins are 36-15 in their last 51 games playing on 1 days rest and 38-14 in their last 52 vs. a team with a losing record. The Sabres are 12-40 in their last 52 games playing on 1 days rest and 16-35 in their last 51 home games. The home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
I can't buy the Bruins at that price, but I can take the over. The over is 14-5-7 in the last 26 meetings between these two teams and with the way Boston has picked it up, I smell an ugly blowout that takes us over this projected total.
