The Chicago Blackhawks collide with the Ottawa Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Chicago Blackhawks take the ice for the second time on their current road trip when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. Anaheim is hoping it's another positive result after strong defense and goaltending led them to a 1-0 victory at the United Center over the Blackhawks. Both sides did not give an inch before Devante Smith-Pelly tallied with the Blackhawks on the powerplay with 8:28 left in the contest. The Ducks were shorthanded with 2:35 left and Scott Darling was pulled but Chicago couldn't get the puck past John Gibson who recorded his second shutout with 38 saves and upped his record to 5-1 while Darling absorbed the defeat with 24 stops.
USA TODAY Sports
The Ottawa Senators host the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday night hoping to duplicate their strong efforts at both ends of the ice that we saw in Tuesday's 5-2 victory at banged up Columbus. The Senators scored three times in the third to break open a 2-2 contest for their fifth victory in the last six meetings with the Blue Jackets. Clarke MacArthur paced the Ottawa attack with a pair of tallies with Zack Smith, Erik Karlsson and Alex Chiasson joining the scoring spree. Robin Lehtner shut down Columbus in the third and recorded 36 stops for the win. Cam Atkinson and David Savard provided the Blue Jackets offense but Curtis McEihinney struggled in the third when Ottawa pulled away and finished with 29 saves in a losing effort with the team suffering loss number three in a row.
The under is 6-0-1 in Blackhawks last 7 overall and is 6-0 in Blackhawks last 6 vs. a team with a winning record while going 4-0-1 in Blackhawks last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. For Ottawa the under is 6-0 in Senators last 6 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game while the Senators are 6-0 in their last 6 games playing on 1 days rest and 4-0 in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Head to head the home team is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings with the Blackhawks going 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. Both teams are playing well in the early going and I'm sure the Senators would like nothing better then to beat Chicago and when goalies are confirmed I'll post a pick by Thursday afternoon...
