Buffalo Sabres vs. Edmonton Oilers - 11/7/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Edmonton Oilers got off to another slow start to the season but quickly turned things around after a nice home stand and many thought that was the starting point of a complete turnaround for the franchise and that this was the year they would finally get back into the postseason. Boy, were they wrong. The Oilers have spoiled their winning streak by losing their last four games and are without Taylor Hall for the foreseeable future as he is out with an MCL sprain and captain Andrew Ference will be out tonight as he serves the final game of his three game suspension. Edmonton isn't giving goaltender Ben Scrivens a lot to work with and as such the team has given up a league worst 48 goals and don't appear to be doing anything in the near future to limit the onslaught by their opponents. Scrivens will likely give way to Viktor Fasth tonight as he will be making his first start since going down with a knee injury in the first week of the season and he will match up against Jhonas Enroth for the Sabres.

The Sabres meanwhile are tied for the worst record in hockey sharing that accolade with the Hurricanes and the Blue Jackets but are just a single point back of the Oilers and they can escape the league basement with a victory here on home ice. Despite their futility the Sabres have been playing much better of late and stole a road win against the San Jose Sharks earlier this week that nobody saw coming and playing at home here should give them a bit of confidence against a struggling Oilers side. These two teams are likely bound to battle it out for the game's worst mark or will at least be in the draft lottery together and while I think the Oilers are the deeper team here I just don't see them doing enough without Hall to grab two points. The Sabres have been the better team of late and I think they extend Edmonton's misery tonight.
