NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
November 10, 2014
After a pretty full weekend of NHL hockey, things will be slowing down a bit this evening. We’ve got just two games on the schedule in the coming hours, but there’s plenty more on the way this week. In the meantime, let’s take our daily look around the league at some of the notable players out there.
Peter Holland, C, Toronto Maple Leafs: Ottawa was handed its first regulation loss of the season last night, courtesy of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Holland led the way in a strong effort during the 5-3 win, posting a goal and an assist.
James van Riemsdyk and Josh Leivo each notched goals in the second period, while Mike Santorelli notched the eventual game-winner. Toronto overcame a one-goal deficit twice to get this win and send them to 8-5-2 on the year so far.

Ryan Callahan, RW, Tampa Bay Lightning: Callahan got to play the hero in last night’s 4-3 shootout victory over the Red Wings, notching a pair of assists in regulation and the lone shootout score. Steven Stamkos also put forth a big effort with two goals of his own.
The Red Wings fought hard in this one, overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the second to get into extra time, but Tampa Bay prevailed in the end to get to 11-3-1 on the year.
Benoit Pouliot, LW, Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers’ defense was humming along nicely in their 3-1 victory over the Rangers yesterday. The team clamped down on New York to protect their one-goal lead, not allowing a third-period shot on goal until almost 11 minutes had gone by. Pouliot had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored and notched a helper. The Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist had 30 saves in the loss.
Trevor Van Riemsdyk, D, Chicago Blackhawks: After the Blakhawks had dropped three straight games at the United Center, the pressure was on to edge out a win against the Sharks yesterday. That’s exactly what Chicago did, notching a 5-2 victory to halt their skid.
Van Riemsdyk scored in the first period, his inaugural goal of the season. On the other side, Joe Pavelski scored both goals for the Sharks.
The win brings the Blackhawks to 8-6-1 on the year.
