The Los Angeles Kings lost their first game of the season in what was their Stanley Cup banner celebration against the San Jose Sharks but they have gone 8-3-3 since that game and are looking more and more confident as the season progresses. Los Angeles is still without suspended defenseman Slava Voynov who would certainly be a difference maker if he was in the lineup but even without him the Kings are among the game's best in terms of team defense and if they can maintain their stinginess in the defensive zone there is no doubt that the Kings will return to the playoffs and could very well challenge for the Stanley Cup once again. LA has had a very tough schedule so far this season but this one has certainly been on their calendars for a while as this is a grudge match between two of the league's best clubs with in state and divisional bragging rights on the line.
The Ducks have been the class of the Western Conference so far this season picking up where they left off last season and after a disappointing effort in last years playoffs you can expect the Ducks will have added incentive to perform this season. Anaheim went out and acquired Ryan Kesler in the offseason to add to an already impressive offensive core that includes Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry and if the Ducks can bring in a couple pieces at the trade deadline it could be very tough to slow them down. Many people questioned whether or not the Ducks would be able to win games with Frederik Andersen in goal but so far the young Norwegian has been special in the Anaheim crease and going up against Jonathan Quick this is the perfect chance to silence his critics. This is a game I will likely be staying away from and just enjoying as a fan but if I had to lean one way it would be with the Ducks as I think they break through after three straight overtime losses.
