The Ottawa Senators head into Sunrise on Friday night looking to make up some ground in the Atlantic division while keeping the Panthers at bay in the process as they sit just a single point back of the Maple Leafs for fifth in the division and two points up on the Panthers for sixth. Ottawa has had a decent start to the season sitting three games above .500 through 21 contests and look like a team that could challenge for a wild card spot as the Metro division is completely wide open but with the top four in the Atlantic being among the better teams in the East in Montreal, Boston, Tampa, and Detroit the Sens know they'll be hard pressed to reach that goal. The Sens will go with Craig Anderson tonight who has a 5-4-3 record and a 2.38 GAA which is quite respectable but with he and Robin Lehner splitting time pretty well down the middle it has to be tough getting into a groove and the time share should come to an end if Ottawa can help it.
The Panthers head into Friday night's game flying under the radar a little bit as they have played the fewest games of any team in the league yet have played some pretty solid hockey for having such a young team and if they can continue to get production from a balance of players they could very well sneak into the postseason. Florida is more than likely to regress as the season goes along as the somply don't have the roster at the moment to be a playoff team but they have some studs that with a couple of other pieces and a few more years of experience could bring Stanley Cup hockey back to South Florida for the first time since 1996. The Cats will look to pull even with the Sens in this one but I just don't like the matchup especially with Anderson getting the call as he was a former Panthers goalie himself and while he may not have the retribution factor it is always nice beating your old team and I think we get that here from him.
