The Nashville Predators have taken the NHL by storm this season and currently sit in second place in the Central division and are just a single point back of the Blackhawks for first. Nashville has long prided themselves on being a strong defensive team with great goaltending and while they veered away from that last year and missed the playoffs they are right back to that old philosophy under guidance and now that they have some offensive pieces they could be hard to stop. The Preds are a modest 6-5 on the road though which has been their only downfall this season but Pekka Rinne is the type of goaltender who can steal you a game wherever you are and against an Avs team that is starting to play better hockey the time is now for Rinne and the Preds to find more consistency away from home. Rinne will go up against Semyon Varlamov in a battle of former Vezina candidates.
The Avalanche look to climb their way out of the Central division basement with a victory and a Dallas loss on Tuesday night but they face a tough Predators team playing with a ton of confidence. The Avs were big time overachievers last season and offered very little value in their game from a handicapping perspective but this season the table has turned a bit as the team was getting way too much love at the start of the season and are now a better team than most of these lines give them credit for. The Avs do have some nice pieces up front in Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, and Nathan Mackinnon but the loss of Paul Stastny hurts and with Varlamov not playing the way he did last year the team has regressed and are now battling just to reach the .500 mark. The Preds are slight favourites here and while Colorado has been playing better of late there is no reason to go against Nashville here and I think they get it done.
