Anaheim continued their league leading pace with a win against one of the best in the East on Thursday night as they took down the Canadiens in Montreal by a 2-1 final in what was a very hard earned two points. The Ducks improved to 22-7-5 and now have 49 points in 34 games and after a year where they fell in the Pacific Division finals to the eventual Cup champions from Los Angeles it is the Ducks who are now in the driver's seat and look like a serious threat to make a push this season. Anaheim could be very active in the second half of the season as they could use a bit of help on the back end or some insurance in the crease so don't expect them to sit idle around the trade deadline but for now they have the look of a team who can win a league championship.
The Senators are heading in the opposite direction at the moment as they're still reeling from letting go of their head coach last week and while they are coming off a victory they are just 3-5-2 in their last 10 games overall. Ottawa is a team that should be more competitive in the Atlantic division as they have the makeup of a group that should challenge for a playoff spot hence the firing of their head coach but they just don't seem to have the same intensity and swagger we are used to seeing from them. The Sens will turn to Craig Anderson once again between the pipes and while Frederik Andersen got the win in Montreal last night he could very well get the nod again as the alternative is Ilya Bryzgalov until John Gibson returns. However, I think the Ducks will go with Bryz here and as such I think we will see plenty of scoring and making it an easy call for us to take the over.
