NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
December 24, 2014
The NHL is now on a three-day Christmas break, and the teams won’t be back out on the ice until Saturday. While we’re waiting, let’s check out some of the notable headlines and statistics from around the league in our daily wrap-up.
Brad Marchand, LW, Boston Bruins: Heading into the game against the Predators yesterday, Marchand was on a six-game goal drought. He was able to reverse that trend in a 5-3 victory, however, posting a pair of scores in the process. He now has 10 goals on the year.
Patrice Bergeron (three assists) and Loui Eriksson (two goals) also had big games for Boston, who is now 18-14-3. It was their first back-to-back win streak in over a month.

Brendan Gallagher, RW, Montreal Canadiens: The Canadiens were looking pretty outmatched in the first period against the Islanders last night, but they turned that around in the second and third. Montreal would take it 3-1, thanks to Gallagher’s eventual game-winning goal and Carey Price’s 37 saves on 38 shots.
David Desharnais and Andrei Markov also scored in this one, which sent Montreal to 22-11-2 on the year.
Rick Nash, LW, New York Rangers: We’ve got a great Metropolitan race shaping up between the Rangers and the Capitals, as the teams have exchanged volleys in the standings all season. This latest round went to the Rangers, as they took a solid 4-2 win at the Garden last night.
Nash posted two goals and an assist, while Martin St. Louis (two goals) and Mats Zuccarello (two assists) had multiple-points games. The Rangers are 18-10-4 overall and have won seven straight.
Semyon Varlamov, G, Colorado Avalanche: The Avalanche really put it to the Blues last night at Pepsi Center. Varlamov anchored a defensive effort that brought him a 5-0 shutout, posting 26 saves in all.
Five different players scored goals here, including Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay, who each had an assist as well.
The Avs move to 13-13-8 now and are 4-0-2 in their last six outings.
