NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
January 2, 2015
Now that the New Year’s festivities and the Winter Classic have all finished up in the NHL, the rest of the league can get going on their 2015 schedules. We’ve got quite a lineup coming in the next several hours, so with that said let’s check out some of the notable players and happenings from around the league.
Justin Williams, RW, Los Angeles Kings: The Kings out-shot the Canucks by a whopping 40-16 last night, but barely eked out a victory. The team scored twice in the third to secure a 3-2 win in Vancouver at Rogers Arena, with Williams logging the tying score on a power play with just 2:07 remaining.
Ryan Miller stood up valiantly for most of the game, stopping 37 of the 40 shots that came his way.
The win brought the Kings to 5-8-6 on the road and ended a five-game losing streak away from home.

Alex Ovechkin, RW, Washington Capitals: Both the Capitals and the Blackhawks came into the Winter Classic yesterday cruising, but Washington was able to take the victory by a score of 3-2. Ovechkin scored and had an assist, while Troy Brouwer posted the game-winning goal with just 12.9 seconds left.
The Caps posted a 2-0 lead less than 12 minutes into the game but couldn’t hang on.
This was another successful Classic, as 42,832 fans showed up to root on the participating teams.
Rasmus Ristolainen of the Sabres is set to return today, as the team sent Mark Pysyk back to the AHL. Ristolainen is seen as a franchise defenseman for Buffalo, so it’s good to see him back.
Also, some good news for the Isles. RW Michael Grabner, who has a lower-body injury, is ready to return to the team. That said, he may have to wait around for a roster spot to open up before he can get in there.
