After just one game last night, the NHL is back with a vengeance this evening. There are 10 matchups on the schedule, so there will be no shortage of places for hockey lovers to find their fixes. With that in mind, let’s check out some of the notable happenings out there this morning.

Brent Burns, D, San Jose Sharks: The Sharks were coming off a big loss (five goals) to the Blues on Saturday, so last night’s game in Winnipeg was important for getting back on the right track.
That’s just what they did in the 3-2 win at MTS Centre, capped with a game-winner from Marc-Edouard Vlasic with just 4.5 seconds left in the third. Burns added a goal and an assist for his part.
With that win, San Jose is now third in the Pacific in what’s a very tight race for the final playoff slots right now.

The Penguins’ Simon Despres left practice yesterday due to an injury, so he’ll be one to watch heading into tonight’s game.
Despres has been pretty durable so far this season, but he’s apparently got something going on with him health-wise.

The Blues’ Brian Elliott will be starting in goal tonight against Arizona. He’ll be making this most recent start after an 18-save effort during a 7-2 blowout against San Jose on Saturday.
Elliott is 9-5-1 so far with a .930 save percentage and 1.91 GAA.

The Habs’ P.A. Parenteau was ruled out of tonight’s game against the Lighting due to an undisclosed injury. He was hurt on Friday, likely on a big hit in the second period against the Devils. Parenteau’s next opportunity to return will be Saturday against Pittsburgh.

Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian may be able to return to the lineup during this upcoming three-game road trip, according to sources close to the team.
Bogosian has been out since early last month due to a lower-body injury. He’s been tracking ahead of schedule in his recovery, so this is very good news for Winnipeg.
