The Chicago Blackhawks continue to be one of the teams to beat in the NHL and will almost certainly be a playoff contender against this season as they currently sit in second place in the ridiculously competitive Central division. The Hawks have the makeup to be a Cup threat each and every season and they demonstrated that once again last night by doubling up on the Minnesota Wild at the X which is a very tough place to play. The Hawks skate into Edmonton looking for yet another win and if they can do so against an underwhelming and underachieving Oilers team they are in a good spot to overtake the Preds for the top spot in the division. Corey Crawford is expected to get the start but we could also see Antii Raanta as one of them will match up against Ben Scrivens or Viktor Fasth.
Edmonton's dismal season continues on Friday night when they host the Blackhawks at Rexall Place in what looks like a lopsided affair when looking at the standings. Edmonton sits in dead last in the NHL with just nine victories through 41 games and a measly 27 points putting them in a great position to once again lock up the top overall selection in the NHL draft. The Oilers were hoping they could replicate Chicago's success by building throught he draft as they figured Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins could be Edmonton's version of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews but the reality is is that they aren't even close and Edmonton could be shipping guys out instead of trying to build. The Oilers are a mess and until they can piece some decent efforts together they remain on auto fade and taking the Hawks in regulation is a smart play here.
