The Islanders have been among the league's best all season so there is no need to panic considering the team has lost back to back games to Calgary and Vancouver as they still sit in second place in the Metro and can reclaim top spot with a win here. New York is still a young team but they have the right balance and certainly have a good shot at locking up a playoff spot and beyond if they can continue to find success. New York is 12-9-1 on the road this season and catch a Devils team that is sitting at the .500 mark at home and coming into tonight's matchup the Islanders are a full 13 points clear of their division rivals and can add to that lead with a win in regulation. Jaroslav Halak is expected to get the start while the Devils may be forced to go with Keith Kinkaid after playing last night.
The Devils have had a tough go this season and things don't appear to be turning around any time soon as they sit in second to last in the division and are in fifth last place in the league which will likely leave them with a top draft pick in July. New Jersey has endured a lot over the last few seasons and they haven't been able to reclaim the form that had them in the Cup finals a few seasons ago and again this doesn't look like it's going to be the year in which they get back to the postseason as they have an aging roster that isn't producing. Despite being at home here the Devils are underdogs and for good reason as this is a solid Islanders team and the fact that they have lost back to back games on the West coast gives them more incentive to get back on the horse in this one against a divisional foe they are familiar with.
