The Detroit Red Wings collectively gasped at the sight of goaltender Jimmy Howard being taken off on a stretcher last week and while it turned out that Howard sustained a partially torn groin the diagnosis is much better than originally feared as many thought he was done for the season. The Wings have thrown Petr Mrazek into the mix and so far this season he is 6-3-2 and has done enough to keep the Wings in the win column since Howard's injury but tonight is a different sort of beast. Detroit knows St. Louis well from their days in the Central division and the Western Conference so the familiairty could come into play and give the Wings a bit of a boost but the Blues are the hottest team in the league right now and can't seem to do any wrong as they have some big time blowouts in their resume in the last two weeks. Mrazek will almost certainly get the call as he will go up against Jake Allen who is getting back into the fold after a lengthy stint on the injured reserve.
The Blues have been fun to watch during their five game winning streak and will go for one more on Thursday against Detroit and with a win they would move into second place in the Central and jump over the idle Chicago Blackhawks. St. Louis has been a team on the rise over the last few seasons but their playoff inadequacies stemmed from their inability to produce secondary scoring but things have changed greatly this year as they have a very deep team offensively and a second line that is scoring with great pace and now combining that with great defense and two good goaltenders this could be the year the Blues break through. They are pretty heavy favourites here against a good Detroit Red Wings team but I do think they keep their winning ways afloat and do enough to grab two points though I am not touching the puck line or regulation play.
