The New Jersey Devils head into San Jose on Monday night looking to leave the Golden State on a high note as they complete their three team trek against the second place Sharks at the SAP Center. The Devils have had a disappointing season and will likely miss out on the playoffs in the Eastern Conference but for all of their downfalls you can't blame it on goaltending as Corey Schneider has actually been really solid and deserves more recognition. The Devils currently sit in seventh place in the Metro division and are 16 points back of the Rangers for third place and with the roster New Jersey has it is going to take a miracle for them to make up enough ground to be in contention and to be honest I think they are better served trying to land a top draft pick and perhaps drafting one of the top talents available. Schneider is expected to get the start for the Devils as he will go up against Alex Stalock who will get the nod over Antii Niemi.
The Sharks have quietly pieced together a strong campaign as they looked ambivalent during a losing skid in the early part of the year and heading into Monday's action they sit in second place in the Pacific, at least for the time being. San Jose still has a very talented roster but it hasn't been the same dynamic this season as they have a more complete game and a total team effort which seems to be the trend this season as a number of teams notorious for relying on top point producers to carry their team including the Capitals, Red Wings, and Canucks – all of which are enjoying success this season. San Jose is a tough team to figure out though as they have yet to replicate any regular season success in the playoffs and until they do so that reputation will haunt them and will leave other teams confident they can come back from any deficit they may face against the Sharks. As for tonight though I think San Jose gets it done at home and sends the Devils packing back home with another loss.
