After just three games last night, the NHL is back in a major way this evening. We’ve got a full 11-game set to look forward to in the coming hours. In the meantime, let’s check out our daily wrap-up and see which players are making news out there.
Adam Larsson, D, New Jersey Devils: Yesterday’s only shootout result belonged to the Devils and Maple Leafs, and New Jersey emerged victorious 2-1 after three rounds. Larsson posted the tying goal late in the third, and net-minder Cory Schneider came up with 29 saves on 30 shots. His counterpart, Jonathan Bernier, had a good game as well with 22 saves on 23 that came his way.
It was the Devils’ third victory in four games. They’re now 18-22-8.

Alex Ovechkin put up two goals on five shots here, and Nicklas Backstrom managed two assists of his own.
The Caps came into the new year on a hot streak but have since cooled; this game may mark a distinct return to form. They’re now 25-14-9 on the season.
Jeff Carter, C, Los Angeles Kings: Carter was a busy guy in last night’s late game. He put up two goals and an assist with five shots on goal. His teammate Tyler Toffoli managed a goal and a helper in the Kings’ 4-3 victory over the Blackhawks.
The defending champion Kings are now 21-15-12 on the season but have won just three of their last 12 games. Chicago is now 30-16-2.
