Colorado Avalanche vs. Nashville Predators 1/30/15 - NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Nashville Predators fought back hard in the third period in their game against the St. Louis Blues last night but their come back bid came up a little bit short as the Blues won in a shootout but they did steal a single point and kept St. Louis away for now for the Central Division lead. The single point keeps the Preds four points up on the Blues and they can add to that with a win here against the Colorado Avalanche who have bee coming on nicely in the last 10 games sporting a 5-2-3 mark and are now just nine back of the Jets for fourth in the division and four back of the Flames for the final wild card spot as of last night. The Predators though will truly feel the impact of having Pekka Rinne on the shelf and while the Preds have an amazing defensive core they will be on the road against a desperate team here and could very well be starting their third string goaltender in Marek Mazanec. Colorado will likely go back with Semyon Varlamov but don't write off Calvin Pickard who has been very solid most of the year.

The Avalanche look to continue their resurgence after a slow start had them left for dead by a number of people and with a win on Friday night they can pull to within two points of the final wild card spot in the Western Conference playoff race. The Avs have been a tough team to figure out over the last two seasons as they went from being the league's worst and selecting with the first overall pick to winning a crazy tough division and now with expectations through the roof they are righr about where they should be in terms of talent. The Avs have the leadership under Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic and on the ice with guys like Gabriel Landeskog, Jarome Iginla, and Matt Duchene but I think adding a piece or two would go a long way in pushing them into the postseason where they could easily pull off a first round upset against one of the big dogs in the Pacific. As for tonight I think this is as good a spot as the Avs are going to get with Nashville as they're coming off an emotional game yesterday against the Blues and could be going with their third stringer while the Avs are well rested and hungry for a win.
