The Carolina Hurricanes have been in the mix for the top overall draft selection in July's entry draft as they have been at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings for most of the year but a complete derailment from Buffalo and a respectable surge from the Canes has them moving in the right direction. Carolina was expected to have a tough season and coming into tonight's game they still sit in second to last place in the East and third last in the league standings overall and with the trade deadline fast approaching we could very well see some pieces find new homes and some talented prospects on their way to Raleigh. The Canes head into Anaheim looking to improve to 6-3-1 in their last 10 games and put the pressure on the Blue Jackets in the Metro division but they know it is going to be a tough game as the Ducks take no prisoners and are coming off a rather embarrassing loss at the hands of the San Jose Sharks and have dropped back to back games. Cam Ward will get the start as he will go up against Frederik Andersen.
The Ducks will look to reclaim their spot atop the league standings with a victory at home against the lowly Hurricanes and after back to back losses Anaheim could use this one as a chance to get back some of their lost swagger. Anaheim is loaded from top to bottom and could add to that talent pool with a few moves at the trade deadline which could put them in a position to not only challenge for the Western Conference title but to claim the Stanley Cup as well. The Ducks will roll with Andersen as he has been brilliant all season and while he may get overlooked for the Vezina thanks to strong seasons fom Carey Price and Pekka Rinne he has certainly proved his worth and that he belongs as an every day starter in this league. The Ducks aren't as heavily favoured as I first thought which bodes well for us as they should have no trouble here putting Carolina away as the offense comes early and often.
