The Calgary Flames have had as impressive a season as anybody in the league this year as the projected doormats have risen to the occasion and are on the verge of getting into the Western Conference playoffs. Calgary has an interesting dynamic as they have scored goals from their back end at a torrid pace and have relied on their young guns a ton to produce as well and the recipe although unorthodox has worked brilliantly this season for Bob Hartley's group. The Flames currently sit in third place in the Pacific division but are in a tie with the San Jose Sharks and could very well fall back into the wild card spot heading into the weekend but if they can leave the Staples Center with two points they would distance themselves from the pack and move into the final stretch of the season in good shape. Jonas Hiller will get the call in goal as he will go up against Jonathan Quick.
The Kings have had a bit of a rough season and whether that can be attributed to the loss of Slava Voynov on the blue line or the fact that they get every team's best every single night as the reigning champs it seems like something is off about this group. However, there doesn't seem to be any real fear that they will miss out on the this year's playoffs but perhaps there should be as there are some very good hockey teams in front of them and it'll be a dog fight and uphill battle for the Kings to get back into the mix and one of those teams is their opponent tonight. Los Angeles certainly has the talent to pull off the feat as they have won two Cups in three seasons and they can get on the right foot here with a big time win over one of the team's in front of them but the Flames have been solid all season and won't back down from anybody. This should be a fantastic game and while Calgary is a serious value play I do think the Kings do enough to get the win and provide some momentum heading into the weekend.
