The Kings have picked a great time to start looking like the defending Stanley Cup champions and have now won five games in a row heading into Wednesday's encounter in Denver but now they need to prove they can win big games on the road. Los Angeles has been atrocious away from the Staples Center this season sporting a 7-12-6 mark on the road and haven't looked like the same team but with the season starting to win down and the trade deadline looming which acts as the unofficial mark of a buy or sell season the Kings are making a huge push towards a wild card spot and may even reach beyond that as they sit just three points back of second place in the Pacific. The Kings have struggled at times without Slava Voynov but they were brilliant in their victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning and on the road against the Avs they'll need another solid game defensively as Colorado has a handful of guys who can score.
Colorado has had an up and down season and are perhaps a disappointment based on last year's effort but based on the skill set of their team and the other teams in their division I think they are right on track and will compete for a wild card spot. The Avalanche are seven points back of a wild card spot and they can all but rule out a chance at landing in the top three in the Central but they are coming off a big win at home against the Coyotes and could very well outskate the Kings if they are playing their A-game. The Avs are still very much alive but the window of opportunity is closing fast and they need to win these types of games if they want to stay in the mix and while the Kings are playing very well at the moment I think this becomes a bit of a desperation spot for Colorado and I think if Semyon Varlamov has a good night the Avalanche can get the victory and end LA's winning ways.
