We’ve got a pretty busy Wednesday lined up for the NHL tonight, as there are six games on the upcoming schedule. Before we get settled in and wait on those pucks to hit the ice, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there in the news.

Matt Calvert, LW, Columbus Blue Jackets: Calvert had a nice game last night against the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. He bagged two goals on four shots, helping the Jackets to a 5-2 victory. Curtis McElhinney managed 42 saves on 44 shots in the win.
The Blue Jackets move to 25-28-3 with the victory, while the Flyers fall to 24-23-10. It was Philly’s first regulation loss since January 19.

Braden Holtby, G, Washington Capitals: Holtby and the Caps defense were on their game last night against the Penguins. The goaltender bagged 32 saves on 33 shots, helping Washington to a 3-1 win at Consol Energy Center.
Alex Ovechkin helped out with a goal and an assist to bring Washington to 31-17-10 and within one point of the Penguins and Rangers for the second-place spot in the highly-contested Metropolitan.

Chad Johnson, G, NY Islanders: Playing the second game of a back-to-back, the Isles bounced back from their loss to the Rangers with a 4-1 win over the Hurricanes at PNC Arena last night. Johnson made 37 saves on 38 shots, while John Tavares added a goal and an assist.
The Isles are now sitting at 38-19-1 and four points ahead of the Pens and Rangers.
As for the Hurricanes, they fall to 20-29-7 on the year so far.

Jamie Benn, LW, Dallas Stars: It sounds strange, but until last night, the Stars’ Jamie Benn hadn’t had a hat trick in the NHL yet. That changed on three goals against the Blues at Scottrade Center, as the Stars defeated St. Louis 4-1.
Jason Spezza helped out by assisting on all three of Benn’s goals, while Kari Lehtonen made 27 saves on the victory.
Dallas is now 27-22-8 and within four points of the final Wild Card.
