The Dallas Stars have had a disappointing campaign but if they can close out the regular season playing some inspired hockey and can sneak into the playoffs all would be forgotten. However, they have quite a task ahead of them as the Western Conference wild card race is incredibly tight with a number of teams in the fold and the Stars are behind the pack sitting five points back of the Flames. Dallas will also have to do it without Tyler Seguin who had been the team's best player once again this season and without his offensive support the team could be in a lot of trouble despite their six goal outburst against the Red Wings and the elevated play of Jamie Benn. Kari Lehtonen will get the nod as he will go up against Ondrej Pavelec.
The Jets look as though they're going to end their playoff drought and can perhaps move up the divisional standings with a strong finish to the regular season and they can add another win to the column tonight against the Stars. Winnipeg got the trade season rolling by bringing in Drew Stafford and Tyler Myers from the Sabres and I don't expect GM Kevin Cheveldayoff to be finished there as he will likely bring in a couple more pieces one of which could be a veteran goaltender with playoff experience. Enter: Cam Ward. He would be the perfect fit for the Jets as he has won a Stanley Cup, is on a team without any shot to win, and would be an immediate upgrade over the Ondrej Pavelec-Mike Hutchinson tandem that to me may have a tough team leading the Jets to any playoff success. Winnipeg is looking to take a run and land in the top three in the Central division and while it'd be tough either way in the opening round of the playoffs I think they'd like to avoid the Ducks and Preds in the first round. As for tonight, the Jets have been tough to back at times in games where they look like the clear cut favourite but without Seguin here I think Winnipeg is the hands on favourite to win this one.
