The Senators have had a tough season and while it may just be product of circumstance or an opportunity to let unproven players get some time but either way the play of Andrew Hammond between the pipes over the last few games has been nice to see. The Sens have been without Craig Anderson for some time due to injury and Robin Lehner hasn't had the season he was hoping for and now Hammond has been given the green light and he will look to earn his third straight win against he best from the Pacific. Former Ducks forward Bobby Ryan will also make his return to the Golden Coast to take on his former team and while there may be some mixed reaction in the building it'll be nice to see Ryan get an opportunity to show the team made a mistake getting rid of him a year ago. Ottawa will likely miss out on the playoffs but finishing the year with confidence will work wonders for the offseason and get this team back in the fold next season.
The Ducks meanwhile continue to build their lead in the Pacific division and heading into Wednesday night's game they are 10 points clear of the second place Vancouver Canucks. Anaheim is a very well balanced team and will certainly be in the running to win the Stanley Cup this season but they have to be hoping for the return of Frederik Andersen soon and while John Gibson has been decent in relief Andersen has been a horse all season and will be the guy come playoff time. This is actually an interesting matchup as the Sens are bordering on spoiler mode now at this point in the season and with Anaheim a shoe in to make the playoffs I think this is a great spot for Ottawa as they have a hot goaltender and a player making his return to his former building?
