The Carolina Hurricanes look to extend their winning streak when they stay on the road with a trip to face the Blackhawks in the Windy City on Monday. The Hurricanes notched their third straight win in a 5-3 decision at the New York Islanders on Saturday as a four goal explosion in the second period put this one away. Jay McClement paced the offense with a pair of tallies with Justin Faulk, Michal Jordan and Brad Malone added single goals. Cam Wards picked up the win with 21 stops with a goal allowed in each period. The Islanders received goals from John Tavares, Michael Grabner and Nickolay Kulemin but Chad Johnson struggled between the pipes with all five goals given up on 41 shots to absorb the loss and foiled the Islanders attempt at consecutive victories.
The Chicago Blackhawks are hoping a return to the United Center provides a spark and gets the team back in the win column on Monday. The Blackhawks sputter at both ends of the ice in Friday’s 4-0 defeat at Tampa Bay. The teams played a scoreless first before scoring twice in the second and third periods. The Hawks missed having the dangerous Patrick Kane on the ice who is out with a broken clavicle and backup netminder Scott Darling was not up to the task with four goals allowed on 25 shots. The Lightning had no problems at either end of the ice with Steven Stamkos finding the back of the net two times while Ryan Callahan and Brian Boyles also scored. That was more then enough offense for Ben Bishop who recorded 28 stops for his second shutout of the season an 10th of his career. Tampa Bay has now won six of the last seven times these teams have met.
The Over is 4-0-1 in Hurricanes last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and theHurricanes are 0-5 in their last 5 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game while the under is 5-0 in Hurricanes last 5 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation. For Chicago the over is 1-0-3 in Blackhawks last 4 home games while the Blackhawks are 8-1 in their last 9 games following a loss of 3 or more goals with the over going 5-1-1 in Blackhawks last 7 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game. Head to head the Home team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings while the under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings in Chicago and 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. Chicago seems to be in a bit of some upheaval so I’d be careful here…
