After a pretty busy eight-game set last night, the NHL is continuing strong this evening with six more matchups on the schedule. While we’re waiting on all the action, let’s check out some of the notable happenings from around the league in our daily wrap-up.

Wayne Simmonds, RW, Philadelphia Flyers: Simmonds got to score the game-winning goal last night, helping his team to a 3-1 win over the Blues in Philly. It was his 26th score of the year, assisted by Matt Read, who helped on both Simmonds’ game-winner and Michael Del-Zotto’s game-tying goal.
The Flyers are now 28-25-12 and four points behind Boston for the second Wild Card in the East.

Jason Pominville, RW, Minnesota Wild: Don’t look now, but since the All-Star break, the Minnesota Wild have the best record in hockey. They’re 15-2-1 since then, following a 2-1 win over the Capitals last night at Verizon Center.
Jason Pominville scored twice in the third, and Devan Dubnyk logged 24 saves on 25 chances.
The Wild are now 35-22-7 on the season. Meanwhile, the Capitals are 35-21-10.

Steven Stamkos, C, Tampa Bay Lightning: Stamkos logged a pair of assists last night in the Lightning’s 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs at Amalie Arena. Ryan Callahan, Vladislav Namestnikov and Alex Killorn provided the goals. Goalie Ben Bishop made 25 saves in the victory.
The Lightning move to 40-20-6 on the season, three points ahead of the Red Wings and in control of second place in the Atlantic.

John Tavares, C, NY Islanders: The Islanders were able to edge the Predators last night at Bridgestone Arena, eking by on a 4-3 victory. Tavares put up a goal and an assist, as did teammate Nick Leddy.
The Isles are now back in first place in the Metropolitan, two points ahead of the Rangers and with a record of 42-21-3 on the season so far.
