The Buffalo Sabres' season of misery continues on the road in DC on Saturday night as they look to follow up a relatively respectable effort against the Senators last night with another here against the Caps. Buffalo has high hopes for the future and some moves they made this season including the Evander Kane deal is representative of that but their ultimate goal is to finish with the league's worst record to maximize their chances at landing once in a life time talent Connor McDavid. Buffalo currently holds on to the league's worst mark with just 43 points and have an edge although a slight one over the Oilers and Coyotes but as it stands the Sabres are likely to land the top pick and will likely select McDavid if not Jack Eichel. As for tonight, the Sabres will turn to Anders Lindback who contuinues his journeyman career this time as a backup with the league's worst team.
The Capitals are coming off a tough loss and will be out for revenge in this one as they host the lowly Sabres at the Verizon Center. While the line on this one remains to be seen we can almost guarantee it'll be one of the chalkiest of the season as the Caps are lethal at home and are in desperate need of a win if they want any shot at winning the Metropolitan division. The Caps are third best in the Eastern Conference with a +30 goal differential and that is reflective of both how well they have been offensively and how well their goaltender has been this season and with the league's top two point scorers in Alex Ovechkin and Nick Backstrom combined with the goaltending of Braden Holtby the Caps do have the recipe to make a Cup run. There is nothing to think about here as the Caps absolutely cruise.
