The Dallas Stars have had a disappointing season as many expected they would be in the thick of things in the Western Conference but a slow start to the year combined with a late season injury to Tyler Seguin has them sitting seven points back of a wild card spot with time running out. Dallas does have a solid roster and great pieces to build around moving forward especially up front with Seguin and Jamie Benn but they just haven't gotten the support this season from their secondary scoring and the Jason Spezza-Ales Hemsky project has shown signs of flash but not enough to warrant the moves at least for now. Kari Lehtonen is expected to get the start as he will go up against Braden Holtby.
The Capitals are in a tight battle in the Metro division and while they have pretty well played their way out of a division title or even a top three seed they are firmly locked into a wild card spot and could very well end up facing off against one of their division rivals in the opening round. Washington has had success in spurts this season but their 5-5 stretch over the last 10 isn't overly positive heading into the final stretch of the season but they do still have time to turn things around. Washington has relied on the offense of Alex Ovechkin and Nick Backstrom and the goaltending Braden Holtby and while that has been successful it could prove difficult to be so one dimensional in a seven game series. However, I do like Washington in this spot and the price on taking them in regulation or the puck line is very enticing.
