Two of the worst teams in hockey meet up in Edmonton on Monday night as the Maple Leafs look to end their two game slide while the Oilers look for just their 11th home win of the season.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs - 3/16/15 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Things have really changed over the last couple of seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they were once considered to be a team on the rise and one that would be a perennial playoff contender after their success against the Bruins a couple years back but since then they have been an absolute train wreck and have completely fallen off the tracks. Toronto looked posied to make a return to the playoffs after the first month and a half of the season but since then they have fallen on hard times and are now in the running for the top overall draft pick instead of battling for a playoff spot and a loss to the lowly Oilers could put them in serious reach of that pick. The Buds are 8-23-5 on the road this season and even though they sit 12 points up on the Oilers in the standings they are road dogs nonetheless as that is a sign of how bad things have gotten in Leafs Nation.

The Oilers meanwhile were never in the running for a playoff spot and have been a disappointment since the puck dropped in October in what is another lost season in Oil Country and one that could force the hand of management to unload and make some drastic changes in the offseason. Edmonton was supposed to be in the running for the Stanley Cup at this point in their rebuild but instead they are in the mix to once again land a generational talent via the draft and it looks as though they will select another young forward to add to the mix and while it may not be Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel is not a consolation prize as he too can be the face of the NHL in the near future and any team who lands him would be ecstatic. This game means more to the Oilers than the Leafs as I feel like Edmonton is still trying to prove they can be competitive and will be making strides to improve for next year whereas the Buds have mailed it in and continue to show it here.
