The Flyers head into Edmonton looking to end their two game slide and avoid the sweep of Western Canada as they see their playoff hopes diminishing with each passing day. Philly was in a decent position to make a run at a wild card spot a couple of weeks ago but they have played their way out of the conversation and are now 10 points back of the Bruins for the final spot and haven't played with any sense of conviction over the last week and a half. Philly is likely to miss out on the playoffs for the second time in three seasons and for a team that has such a rich history and has been a playoff contender for the better part of the last decade it is tough to see them falling on hard times. Steve Mason will likely get the call as he will go up against Ben Scrivens.
The Oilers have had a tough go once again this season but for all of their hardships in the standings they have been playing a lot better of late and are starting to look like the team many expected we would see in October. Edmonton has had to play without Taylor Hall who is arguably the team’s best player offensively as the former first overall pick has been sidelined for quite some time but in his absence it is nice to see Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle step their games up and the addition of Derek Roy has worked wonders both on the ice and in the dressing room. I have no idea how or why the Flyers are favoured against anybody at the moment and getting the value on Edmonton here on a Saturday night is a steal.
