The Islanders have lost their grip on the Metro division lead and as losers of four games in a row they are picking the wrong time for a swan dive and if not for the Pens having an identical losing skids they could very well have lost home ice in the first round. New York is now five points behind the Rangers and have played three more games than their cross town rivals which basically sets up the Blue Shirts to claim the division and sending the Isles into a battle with the Pens for second place. New York needs to end their losing ways in a hurry as backing into the playoffs would be a nightmare for them and for a season that has gone so well for them it is a little disappointing seeing things go the way they are at the moment. However, it is certainly no time to panic for the Isles as they have a solid roster and catch a Devils team here who is basically out of the playoff race and are playing in a back to back.
The Devils have been red hot winning three games in a row and going 6-2-2 in their last 10 games but with 11 games remaining and a 10 point swing to overcome it'll be a case of too little too late for the Devils this season. New Jersey has been very impressive since the all-star break and for a team that was a seller at the trade deadline they have played their way out of a solid draft spot but I think anyone would rather they build momentum moving forward and have something to build on next season. Corey Schneider has been one of the more underrated goalies in the league this season and while the Islanders need the win I think this is a great spot for the Devils as they have the goaltending edge and have been playing very well over the last two weeks.
