The San Jose Sharks have been as inconsistent as they come this season as they look like a lottery pick team some nights and a Cup contender the next and their see-saw continues in Detroit tonight as they look to keep their slim playoff hopes in tact. San Jose is reeling after last year's collapse in the opening round of the playoffs and if Todd MacLellan and Doug Wilson weren't on the hot seat before they're playing with fire at the moment and if (when) the Sharks miss the postseason they could very well be sent packing. San Jose sits 8 points back of the Flames for third place in the Pacific and with 9 games remaining things look bleak for the teal and black.
The Red Wings meanwhile have picked an inopportune time to start sliding and while they were basically out of the running for the division crown weeks ago they are feeling the heat from the Ottawa Senators who are now just five points behind them for third place. Detroit is all but a shoe in to make the postseason with such little time remaining but if they are going to take down either the Canadiens or Lightning in a best of seven series they'll need to start playing better and getting both Pavel Datsyuk and Niklas Kronwall back tonight is certainly a huge boost. Detroit needs a win here and while the Sharks always play them tough at the Joe this is a much different circumstance and I think the Wings win big here.
