After a super-busy day of NHL action yesterday (13 games), we’ve got eight more matchups on the schedule today. Before we get into the games, let’s check out some of the notable players from the headlines this morning.
Filip Forsberg, C, Nashville Predators: Forsberg had a great game yesterday against the Capitals, helping the team clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the victory. Milan Lucic, LW, Boston Bruins: Even with Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist back on the ice, the Bruins made short work of New York yesterday in Boston, taking the win 4-2. Milan Lucic helped key a three-goal first period for the Bruins; he’d finish with two goals.
Carl Soderberg also helped out with a goal and an assist. It was the Bruins’ first win in the last seven games.
Kyle Palmieri, RW, Anaheim Ducks: Now that we’re back out west, let’s check out the Ducks, who also clinched a playoff spot yesterday. Palmieri scored in the 3-2 victory at Nassau Coliseum yesterday against the Islanders, as did Rickard Rakell and Andrew Cogliano.
Anaheim sits at 48-22-7, which is one point ahead of the Predators for first place in the conference.
Petr Mrazek, G, Detroit Red Wings: Mrazek got himself a shutout yesterday, as the Red Wings made short work of the Lightning at Joe Louis Arena. He made 23 saves in the 4-0 effort, which brought Detroit to 40-22-12 on the year and broke a two-game losing skid.
As for the Lightning, they fall to 46-23-7, second in the Atlantic and one point behind the Canadiens.
