The Colorado Avalanche haven't had the season many expected from them in the preseason and while they may have overachieved last year the thought was they would at least qualify for the playoffs but at this rate it doesn't look like that is going to happen. The Avs were the Central division winners last season but bowed out in the first round and they haven't been able to find that momentum on a consistent basis this season but luckily for them they are heading in the right direction and have a ton of young talent on their roster that will set them up for success for years to come. Semyon Varlamov gets the call in goal as he will go up against Antii Niemi.
The Sharks are an absolute mess right now and it all dates back to their collapse in the first roundf against the Kings last season and everyone in the organization both on and off the ice has been on edge ever since. The Sharks made a stand earlier this season by removing the “C” from Joe Thornton's jersey and giving it to Joe Pavelski and the move may be more significant than people think as it indicates a changing of the guard in San Jose and that could involve Thornton, general manager Doug Wilson, and head coach Todd McLellan. The Sharks are on the outside looking it when it comes to the postseason and their franchise is heading in the complete opposite direction that Colorado's is and I think we see a microcosm of that tonight as the Avs get a big road win.
