The Kings are fighting tooth and nail to sneak their way into the Stanley Cup playoffs and have the opportunity to defend their title but things aren't going to be easy and if the season ended today they would be on the outside looking in. Luckily for the Kings though they have four more cracks at it this season and hold a game in hand on both the Jets and Flames and are finishing off their home and home set with the lowly Oilers. LA is coming off a thrashing of the Oilers in LA last week as they trounced them by an 8-2 final and while the Oil may be out to exact revenge here it just doesn't look like the best spot to do it as Los Angeles is desperately trying to salvage their season and they are losers of four games in a row coming in. Jonathan Quick is expected to get the start and he will go up against Ben Scrivens.
The Oilers have had another woeful season and the same questions continue to arise every season for them and with another lottery pick on the radar the Oilers will have another young piece coming in to the fold that includes three current first overall selections and a number four and seven waiting in the wings. Edmonton hasn't been able to reboot their franchise ever since Chris Pronger left town after their unexpected Cup run in 2006 and while a talent like McDavid or Eichel would certainly do it the Oilers have other needs they have to address as well. The Oilers have played better in the second half of the season and usually play well against the Kings at home but in this context it just doesn't look like a good spot.
