The Winnipeg Jets finally got off the schneid and are back in the NHL playoffs for the first time as a franchise since 1996 and you can bet they will have a ton of energy in this series especially when playing on home ice. Winnipeg has had a very strong season and do present a matchup nightmare for the Ducks as the Jets have incredible size, are very good in the offensive zone and have a much better goal differential on the season yet it is the Ducks who have the playoff experience and a much greater point tally. Winnipeg made some moves early in the season to set them up for this position and now it'll be interesting to see if they were worth it as it is do or die time for the likes of Tyler Myers and Drew Stafford. Ondrej Pavelec is the hot hand in goal for the Jets but don't be surprised to see Mike Hutchinson get the call if Pavelec struggles in the early going.
The Ducks had another strong season and finished atop the Pacific division and while they have fallen short of the best regular season mark in each of the last two year's they are far and away the best team in the regular season over the last two years combined. Anaheim has a solid roster up front as veteran guys like Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Ryan Kesler are still at the top of their game and will be a huge factor in how far this team can go this season but their young blue line and unstable goaltending situation may prove to be the difference if not in this series but moving forward. Anaheim should be able to weather the storm in this game one but they'd better hope they take both games at the Pond as the MTS Centre is going to be a very tough spot to win for any team in these playoffs. I'll take the Ducks to open the series with a win though.
