The Ottawa Senators return home Sunday looking for a win against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Montreal Canadiens took a commanding 2-0 series lead versus the Ottawa Senators with a 3-2 overtime victory Friday to take a 2-0 series lead on the road to Ottawa Sunday. Another strong second period for the Habs who scored twice with Max Pacioretty and PK Subban lighting the lamp. Alex Galchenyuk sent the home crowd in to a frenzy when he sent a rebound past Andrew Hammond just 3:40 in to the extra session. Carey Price looked much better then in game one with a 29 stop performance to get his second win and a sweep on home ice as the series now shifts to Ottawa for game number three.

The Ottawa Senators gave Montreal all they could handle Friday night but in the end they were knocked off in overtime. The upside to what they did was prove they could compete on the road. The downside was competing and winning are night and day apart. The Senators are now in desperation mode with another defeat sending them to an 0-3 hole in the series which is a likely death sentence to their postseason. Clarke MacArthur and Patrick Wiercioch scored for the Senators with Andrew Hammond absorbing the loss despite an impressive 39 save performance although the he struggled in the second period again with the Habs posting a 14-3 edge in shots.
I don’t really have a whole lot of faith in the trends which favored Montreal in this series and proved to be accurate. Having said that, this series could easily be tied or 2-0 in favor of Ottawa. Two really poor second period performances were the difference in this series and I don’t know if it’s because the Canadiens made adjustments that Ottawa couldn’t match or not. No goalies or line are out but I think if Hammond is in net he will have to be airtight for 60 minutes or this series will be 3-0…
