The Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning match up in game five at Amalie Arena.
The Detroit Red Wings dream of a 3-1 series lead against visiting Tampa Bay on Thursday looked like reality for nearly 55 minutes with a second consecutive shutout so close you could taste it. However the Lightning shocked the crowd at Joe Louis Arena with a pair of late goals and of course the winner in a 3-2, overtime thriller. After a scoreless first period the Red Wings found the back of the net twice with Joakim Andersson and Gustay Nyquist doing the honors while the loss went to Petr Mrazek who recorded 26 saves in the defeat. Detroit might have stolen the series opener but let game four get away from them.

The Tampa Bay Lightning probably knew a loss in game four at Joe Louis Arena would put them in a 3-1 series hole with likely elimination coming. I suppose their namesake is accurate description of what happened with less then six minutes remaining in regulation. Lightning did strike (pun intended) twice with Tyler Johnson got Tampa Bay on the board with 5:26 left to half the Detroit lead with Ondrej Palat netted the equalizer less 77 seconds later to stun the home crowd and send the game to overtime. Johnson tallied the game winner 2:25 in to the extra session on a three on one break to make Ben Bishop’s 22 save performance stand up and knot the series at two games apiece.
The under is 3-0-3 in Red Wings last 6 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game while the Red Wings are 4-1 in their last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and are 1-4 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Lightning are 4-0 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest with the under going 5-1-2 in Lightning last 8 vs. Atlantic while the over is 4-1-2 in Lightning last 7 home games. The Red Wings are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Tampa Bay and the under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings while the home team is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. This is a weird series so I’ll take a good look at it while waiting for goalies…
