The New York Rangers hope to avoid elimination at the hands of the Washington Capitals Friday night in game 5.
The New York Rangers have struggled to score against the Washington Capitals and they are running out of time to fix the situation. The goals were scarce once again in Thursday’s 2-1 defeat at the Verizon Center which has the team staring at a 3-1 series deficit with game number five scheduled for Friday at Madison Square Garden. Derick Brassard supplied New York with their lone goal when his wrist shot beat Braden Holtby at just over six minutes in to the second for a 1-0 lead but that was it for the offense. Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 28 shots in another strong effort but his friends at the offensive end have not given him much support throughout the postseason thus far.

The Washington Capitals were given little chance at knocking off the New York Rangers but are on the verge of doing just that after a 2-1 game four victory sends them to Madison Square Garden with a 3-1 series lead and a chance to close out the series. The Capitals offense has largely been held in check thanks to Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers defense but in truth they haven’t needed much scoring with Braden Holtby putting up a wall in front of the nets. Holtby was outstanding once again with 28 stops to pick up the victory while helping his team to a 5-1 record at the Verizon Center in the playoffs. Andre Burakovsky scored a both Caps goals with the winner coming just 24 seconds in to the third.

The under is 5-0-1 in Rangers last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and is 5-0-1 in Rangers last 6 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game while going 4-0-1 in Rangers last 5 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Capitals are 4-9 in the last 13 meetings in New York and the under is 28-13-11 in the last 52 meetings. No line is out but the Caps and the under keep cashing so I’ll look at both…
