NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
May 9, 2015
This round of the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs is beginning to wind down, and as a result we’ve got just one game left in the second round tonight. While we’re waiting on that puck to drop, let’s check out some of the notable players in the headlines this morning.
Ryan McDonagh, D, New York Rangers: The Rangers’ season has been pushed to the brink, but they’re not finished just yet. McDonagh scored the game-winner in overtime last night against the Capitals in Game 5, breaking a 1-1 tie on a very intense game. He’d had just one goal through nine games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Neither team scored until the third, and after a Caps goal Kris Kreider equalized things late in the period.
Goalie Henrik Lundqvist stopped 28 of 29 shots that came his way, while his counterpart Braden Holtby halted 41 of 43 in another stellar effort in goal.
The Rangers are still one win away from being eliminated, down 3-2 in the series. Game 6 is tomorrow at Verizon Center in DC.

Jakob Silfverberg, RW, Anaheim Ducks: Out West, the Ducks are also one win away from finishing a series, but they’re on the winning side of things. Matt Beleskey scored the game winner in a 4-2 victory last night against the Flames in Calgary, giving Anaheim a 3-1 edge in the series.
Silfverberg added a goal and an assist, while goalie Frederik Anderson managed 25 saves.
If you include games in the regular season, the Ducks have now won 21 straight games against the Flames at Honda Center. That run dates back to 2006.
Game 5 in this series is tomorrow in Anaheim.
NHL Daily Schedule: Here’s a look at the upcoming games on the NHL schedule, including the start times and TV networks where you can catch each matchup.
