NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
October 16, 2015
After a pretty busy NHL set last night, we’ve got seven more games to look forward to this evening. While we’re waiting for those pucks to hit the ice, let’s check out some of the notable players and storylines out there.
Mikhail Grabovski, C, NY Islanders: The Isles came up with four straight goals to post an improbable victory last night against the Predators at Barclays Center. Grabovski assisted on two of those, with Nikolay Kulemin providing the game-winner off a fortuitous rebound.
That’s two straight home wins for New York, who now stand at 2-1-1. Nashville falls to 3-1-0.

Marc-Andre Fleury, G, Pittsburgh Penguins: The Pens have had all sorts of trouble in the early-going this year, but they found a way to win against the Senators last night. Fleury posted 22 saves in a shutout, with Daniel Sprong and Evgeni Malkin providing the offense in a 2-0 win.
It was Fleury’s 39th career shutout, and the Pens have now ended their worst season-starting mark since 2005.
Braden Holtby, G, Washington Captials: Holtby had a nice game last night as well, posting 26 saves on 27 shots against the defending champion Blackhawks. The result was a 4-1 victory at Verizon Center.
John Carlson (goal; assist) and Evgeny Kuznets (two assists) helped out on offense here. Washington is now 2-1-0 on the season, while Chicago stumbles out of the gate at 2-3-0.
Carey Price, G, Montreal Canadiens: In yet another solid goaltending performance last night, Price tallied 25 saves in a 3-0 shutout of the Rangers at Bell Centre. David Desharnais would earn star honors with two assists.
Montreal is now off to the best start ever in the history of their franchise (5-0-0). Last night marked the team’s 98th home opener; they’d swept a season-opening four-game set.
Meanwhile, the Rangers have dropped two straight after winning their first three this year.
