October 17, 2015
We’ve got a stuffed NHL schedule to look forward to this evening, with 10 games on the slate. While we’re waiting, let’s check out some of the notable players in the headlines right now.
Joffrey Lupul, LW, Toronto Maple Leafs: Lupul came up with a goal and an assist on two shots last night against the Blue Jackets, helping Toronto to a 6-3 victory in Columbus at Nationwide Arena. Daniel Winnik helped out with three assists of his own.
This was coach Mike Babcock’s first win as head of the Leafs. They’re now 1-2-1 on the year.

Eric Staal, C, Carolina Hurricanes: Staal and Kris Versteeg each bagged a goal and a pair of assists on the way to a 5-3 victory over the Red Wings last night at Joe Lewis Arena. Brock McGinn helped out with a goal and an assist.
Carolina finished with a 36-20 shots margin; they’ve now outshot Detroit 83-39 in two games this year.
Vladimir Tarasenko, RW, St. Louis Blues: The Blues had a 4-1 lead in the third period last night against the Canucks at Rogers Arena, and that was barely enough to get the win. The game would finish 4-3 St. Louis, with Tarasenko adding two assists to the line. Alexander Steen would come up with a goal and a helper of his own.
That win breaks a six-game losing streak against Vancouver for the Blues. They’re now 4-1-0.
Reto Berra, G, Colorado Avalanche: Berra was on point last night against the Ducks at Honda Center. He came up with 35 saves in the 3-0 shutout, which marked the third time Anaheim as been shut out in their four games this year.
It was the second NHL shutout for Berra, who was starting for Semyon Varlamov. His team came up with 41 blocked shots here.
