The Columbus Blue Jackets look for their first win when they face the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
The Columbus Blue Jackets appeared to be heading for a win in game one under new head coach John Tortorella but a quick start ended in a 3-2 defeat at Minnesota on Thursday night for an 0-8-0 start. The Blue Jackets received first period tallies from Brandon Dubinsky and Alexander Wennberg but the offense was held scoreless the rest of the way and Sergei Bobrovsky’s 20 stop performance wasn’t enough. The Wild survived the early surge and received a first period goal from Zach Parise before Nino Niederreiter and Thomas Vanek scored in the second while neither team scored in the third. Devan Dubnyk picked up the win for Minnesota with 27 saves.

The Colorado Avalanche had dominated Carolina at home with their last home loss to the Hurricanes coming in 1996. However the Avalanche will have to begin another streak after the Canes squeezed out a 1-0, overtime victory on Wednesday night Cam Ward had a strong performance between the pipes with 26 saves to power the Hurricanes to just their second victory. Matt Duchene hit Ward’s stick on an odd man rush in the third in what was basically open net and Jerome Iginla was stoned on a beakaway early in the overtime and the result was an 18 save performance from Semyon Varlamov going for naught.
The Blue Jackets are 0-4 in their last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and are 0-4 in their last 4 road games while going 0-4 in their last 4 vs. a team with a losing record. The under is 4-0 in Avalanche last 4 vs. Metropolitan and is 3-0-1 in Avalanche last 4 games playing on 2 days rest while going 4-0-1 in Avalanche last 5 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The over is 10-2 in the last 12 meetings in Colorado and the road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the Blue Jackets are 7-19 in the last 26 meetings in Colorado. I am waiting for goalie confirmation but lean Colorado…
