The New York Islanders gave up a late lead and dropped a 3-2, overtime decision to visiting Carolina on Thursday night. The Hurricanes never led until the extra session when Ron Hainsey won it on a backhander at 2:21 in to the extra session. The Islanders received goals from Frans Nielsen and Matt Martin with the loss going to Thomas Greiss who recorded 26 saves in place of a sick Jaroslav Halak.

Luke Schenn cored in the second period for the Flyers while goalie Steve Mason stopped 29 shots in absorbing the loss.
