Nickolas Backstrom scored with less then a second left in regulation to send the game to overtime while Alex Ovechkin tallied in the second period and in the 4th round of the shootout to make a winner of Braden Holtby who allowed both goals on 25 shots. The Maple Leafs saw Daniel Winnik and James van Riemsdyk light the lamp but let one get away with James Reimer giving up two goals on 29 shots including the heartbreaker in the last second of regulation.

The Dallas Stars great start to the season continued in a 4-1 victory at Joe Louis Arena on Sunday that upped their record to 12-3-0. A balanced Stars attack saw Valeri Nichushkin and Cody Eakin while Tyler Seguin and Patrick Sharp scored and added assists. The offensive burst made life between the pipes for Kari Lehtonen good as he recorded 21 stops in picking up the win. The Red Wings never got their offense going with Gustav Nyquist scoring their only goal while Jimmy Howard recorded 20 stops before getting hurt in the third. The Red Wings have dropped have dropped to 7-6-1 with loss number three in a row.
