December 18, 2015
Last night was a busy one in the NHL, and we’ve got six more matchups looming this evening. While we’re waiting on those, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in the news.
Chad Johnson, G, Buffalo Sabres: Johnson got the ourth shutout of his career last night against the Ducks in Buffalo, helping the team to a 3-0 win at First Niagara Center.
Johnson made saves on all 44 shots, his first shutout since March of 2014. He also put up a new franchise record for most saves in a shutout, edging Ryan Miller’s February 2012 effort by one.
Buffalo has won three of their past four and stand at 14-16-3 on the season.

Mikko Koivu, C, Minnesota Wild: The Wild have been playing very well lately, and that continued last night against the Rangers at Xcel Energy Center. Koivu had two goals and an assist in the 5-3 win, which gives the team a nine-game points streak.
The Wild have scored 11 goals in their past two games after scoring 13 in the first seven games of their streak.
Minnesota is now 17-7-6 on the season, while the Rangers fall to 19-10-4 and have lost four of the past five.
Teuvo Teravainen, C, Chicago Blackhawks: Teravainen was a nice complement to Corey Crawford last night against the Oilers at United Center. He scored two goals and had an assist, helping his team to a 4-0 victory.
Crawford would make 33 saves in the shutout, while Jonathan Toews (goal; two assists) and Marian Hossa (three assists) each had three points.
Crawford is 5-1-0 in his past six starts and has three shutouts in four games with 17 during his career.
Brandon Saad, LW, Columbus Blue Jackets: The Jackets and Coyotes didn’t seem to be too concerned with defense last night at Gila River Arena in Glendale. The teams scored 11 times on their first 36 combined shots on the way to a 7-5 Jackets victory.
Saad, Cam Atkinson and Alexander Wennberg each had a goal and two assists, while Tobias Rieder had two scores on the other side.
The Jackets are now 12-19-3 overall.
